More Fun and Sight Seeing on The Great Ocean Road
We woke up early as planned and went for a surf at Lorne. It wasn’t great surf but compared to the waves we are used to back in Britain we weren’t complaining. After a few hours surfing and throwing a rugby ball around on the beach we set off on down the road. Our next stop was the Twelve Apostles. This was the attraction that I was most excited about and I’m pretty sure it is the most famous part of the Great Ocean Road. It was very busy there and we even saw a fellow spaceship, unfortunately they were nowhere near there van so we couldn’t exchange a DVD. We left a note but on our return to the car park they still weren’t there!
We parked up and walked out to the viewing point. Of the remaining eleven, you can only see seven from the viewing point. Seven is ample though to make for a fantastic photo. We stood there leaning on the safety bars at the cliff face staring at them for about thirty minutes. It was a spectacular view! On our way back to the van the heavens opened and rain fell heavily. We sprinted back to the van but were still soaked through by the time we got to it.
Right there and then we made a decision not to drive further on down the road. We only had the remainder of the day and the following day to do the drive and then get back to Melbourne. We weighed up whether it was worth carry on to see more sights on the road in the poring rain or would it be better to get back to Melbourne a day early and do some more activities in the city. We decided on the later option and all though we felt were slightly missing out we did have an extra day in Melbourne to do something fun.
The great ocean road had been kind to us. We had hardly spent a penny, aside from the money we spent on petrol. All our meals we cooked in the van, which worked out so cheap and staying in the van meant we didn’t spend money on accommodation. On top of that, everything on the great ocean road is fee. Chilling on the beach, having a surf and seeing some spectacular natural scenery is amazing fun and it’s a little better when you know it’s not hurting your wallet.
We raced back to Melbourne and met a friend from home, who was determined to show us a good night out. It didn’t take a lot of persuading to get us to agree with the whole thing. We went to just one bar for it was the only really bust bar on a Tuesday supposedly. The bar was called Euro Trash and apart from that I can’t tell you much more. From what I recall it had two floors and drinks were pretty reasonable! We had far to many drinks before going out and it resulted in complete memory loss on my part. James and Max said the night was great fun though!!
